{"id":3105,"date":"2025-08-15T12:41:25","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T12:41:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/?p=3105"},"modified":"2026-03-03T10:59:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T10:59:38","slug":"microsoft-teams-call-queue-ringing-tones-and-ring-back-tones-from-all-over-the-world-replace-default-music-on-hold-2-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/?p=3105","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Teams &#8211; Error Assigning Microsoft Teams Phone Standard Licenses to a Group"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">During the deployment of Teams Voice for a customer, I found myself in the following situation: when trying to assign the licenses to a group (called, with a lot of creativity, &#8220;Licensing &#8211; Microsoft Teams Phone Standard&#8221;) the Microsoft 365 interface returned an error (with not much of an explanation attached to that)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"430\" height=\"154\" src=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3106\" srcset=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image.png 430w, https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The customer is using &#8220;Microsoft 365 E3&#8221; licenses, in the old version that included also Microsoft Teams as an App <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"532\" height=\"70\" src=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-1.png 532w, https:\/\/modern-workplace.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/image-1-300x39.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As a basic test, suspecting that the error was tied to a dependency from the Teams license, I tried to remove from the Licensing group all the users that had no E3 licenses. Then I tried with an empty group with no luck whatsoever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">To get a bit more information, I have tried using PowerShell \/ Graph with the Set-MgGroupLicense command<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The result was the following error:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-dfe81cdcb029c958282faadb458a3b45\"><em>Set-MgGroupLicense : License assignment failed because service plan 4828c8ec-dc2e-4779-b502-87ac9ce28ab7 depends on the service<br>plan(s) 57ff2da0-773e-42df-b2af-ffb7a2317929,0feaeb32-d00e-4d66-bd5a-43b5b83db82c<br>Status: 400 (BadRequest)<br>ErrorCode: Request_BadRequest<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So, I was correct in thinking that the problem was a missing service. 4828c8ec-dc2e-4779-b502-87ac9ce28ab7 (Microsoft 365 Phone System)  depends on Microsoft Teams (57ff2da0-773e-42df-b2af-ffb7a2317929)  as you can see at <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/entra\/identity\/users\/licensing-service-plan-reference\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/entra\/identity\/users\/licensing-service-plan-reference<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Next step has been assigning the licenses to the single users <strong>and that worked correctly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">My idea, so far, is that in the <em>Set-MgGroupLicense<\/em> command Microsoft has added a check to verify that a Teams add-on is available to the group but (at least in a scenario involving customer that bought licenses before April 2024) the whole thing does not apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I will have to check if a similar error happens for customers that bought the Teams add-on as a separate item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Group-based licensing for Teams Phone failed with a dependency error.
